There is an urgent need to renew the ancient use of herbal plants as curatives and which can also lead to the prevention of routine health problems. These treatment methods have got neglected due to lack of knowledge in the younger generations and also non-availability of the well known herbal plants which used to be available in any backyard of village homes earlier.
Our first priority is to evoke interest about herbal plants among the village population. This could be achieved through posters, booklets, audio / video publicity and conducted visits to herbal nurseries. These publicity activities could be linked with cancer detection camps.
Once the villagers are willing to use these herbal remedies then the plants could be supplied at a very nominal rate since it has been observed by the trust that any thing given free is not taken care off. Once the plantation is taken up by individual village households, field workers of Sankshema could follow up and help with advice on how to maintain these plants and their proper utilisation.
