DHARAMASHALA AND FREE MEAL SCHEME

The Trust felt that there was a need to bring down the overhaul treatment cost for cancer patients and that could be achieved by making some arrangements for the out-patients stay during their chemotherapy treatment along with one of their attendant. With this in view a Dharmashala with a covered area of 1400 sq feet was constructed in the hospital complex. This provided a shelter for the out-patients and their attendants, thereby avoiding expenditure in staying in a hotel.

In October1996 with the help of some local organizations the trust started providing egg and bread for morning meal free of cost. Subsequently on 28-10-1998 a free meal was added and from 2000 with the help of local traders and other philanthropists; free meal scheme (2 meals, 5 days a week ) was started for all patients and one attendant of the patient.

Donations for this scheme are accepted in cash and in kind. The two meals are prepared by the hospital authorities in the kitchen located in the dharmashala and served to all out-patients and attendants at fixed time in the dharmashala. The in-patients are served their meals in their respective wards.

Impressed by the work done by the trust for the welfare of cancer patients a local philanthropist donated 484 sq yards of land near the hospital complex for constructing comfortable accommodation for the stay of the out-patients and their attendants during the continuous Radiation / Chemotherapy treatment. Depending on the availability of funds, construction will be taken up in the near future.
