ORGANIC FARMING

"Green Revolution" of the sixties introduced high yielding crop varieties combined with chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and as time progressed the use of chemical fertilizers increased resulting in soil salinity, decreased porocity, poor soil condition, less yields and poisioning of water, flora, funa and eventually man. This detrimental effect of artificial inorganic inputs on the fragile eco-system calls for a "Return to Nature" i.e. organic farming.

Organic farming involves a system of farm management practices; targeting, sustainable productivity and facilitates 'weed' and 'pest' control through multimix of mutually dependent life forms, recycling of animal and plant waste materials, crop rotation and tillage operation.

The trustees feel that organic farming should be one of the main thrust areas for improving the lot of the economically deprived rural farming community since the investment is marginal, less labour intensive, and raw materials are cheaply and readily available .
