WARDS

In-patient admissions commenced from 27th December 1995 and at present the hospital has a strength of 100 beds which comprises of a female (curie) ward, Male (Roentgen)ward, semi-private ward, private ward, bachy therapy ward and surgical ward (ICU). A few Individual rooms are available for patients wanting to recuperate in privacy.

FREE MEALS

From 1995 to Dec 2014 20,490patients were treated. If radiotherapy is prescribed, the patient would have to take at least 40 radiotherapy sessions. Annadanam (Free Food) is provided twice a day to the patient and their attendant. This scheme which was started on 1st January 2000 has served 7,72,287 meals.

COBALT II UNIT

The Cancer Hospital is equipped with Alcyon II Telecobalt Unit from France to conduct Radiotherapy. On an average, the machine is used for 10 hours a day. Well equipped medical oncology, surgical oncology and brachy therapy departments have been set up to cater to the needs of the patients. Free meals and accommodation is provided to every patient and one attendant caring for them.

SURGICAL ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT

This department became functional from 27th December 1999 and is equipped with one major and one minor operation theatre and is available for undertaking operation for both pre and post radiotherapy cases. At present the instruments available are for only primary cancer cases.

MEDICAL ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT

This department is fully geared to provide modern chemotherapy facilities for all types of cancers. Trained staff for specialized chemotherapy is available. Day care ward to administer chemotherapy on an outpatient basis is also functional. Besides chemo the identification of tumor and marking of the zones for radiation along with dosage is undertaken.

DIAGNOSTIC ONCOLOGY
DEPARTMENT

X-Ray section: Started in May 1997 with a portable 25Ma 80kv machine which has limited use since it cannot undertake all types of X-rays.

Mould room: This became functional from December 1998.

Laboratory: This was established in Dec 1995 and presently consists of spectrophotometer and microscope. Basic tests are carried out here, but for advance tests patients have to go to other agencies.

MEDICAL PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

This department works in tandem with radiotherapy department and provides service in the area of application of ionizing radiations for therapy. The patient care service involves radiation dosimetry for external beam radiotherapy, brachy therapy, treatment planning dose calculation, quality assurance and maintenance of department. The health physics service involves radiation dose monitoring, film badge service and safety aspects.

Ambulance Service

Ambulance service was started to facilitate movement / transfer of critical patients from remote parts. This service is available round the clock at nominal cost.
